St.Joseph a Little Muddy

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

Joe and I took our little boats to St. Joseph Lake Sunday, August 1st, 2010, I caught the first fish on A KVD worm and caught another both small. I lost two fish. Joe also caught two small bass. I think I won though cause I caught the first one :) .

We didn’t catch anything to brag about but we had a good time. The water temp was 80 degrees and pretty stained to lightly muddy, they must have got more rain there than we did at home.

Lake Logan Saturday Tournament

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

I had the opportunity to visit Lake Logan in Ohio and watch the weigh in yesterday about noon. I got to see some of the people I have been reading about in the reports. I must say everyone seemed really friendly and nice.

My friend, Larry Sali got big bass at 5.32 pounds. Sam and Mike Skinner got first place with a 14.26 pound bag John and Carol Bircher got second place with a 12.98 pound bag

It was a little warm but some nice bags of bass came in. I can highly recommend this tournament for anyone who likes to fish for bass. I believe it starts at 7 am an weigh in is at noon. Please check to make sure I am correct on the time.

Decent Bass At Oakthorpe

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

My fishing partner Joe and I went to Oakthorpe Thursday, July 1 and I was lucky enough to catch a 4 pound 13 ounce Largemouth. Sure looks skinny in the picture that Joe took, it was actually a chunky fish.

I caught it on a green and white Scum Frog and it was the only fish we caught. Notice the eye wound, must have got hooked before or something.

Joe being the good sport he is…first complained that I waited to long to set the hook, even though you are suppose to wait until you feel the fish, I caught the bass Joe! Then he said it was blemished because of the eye. Um Joe, how was the eye on the one you caught? NOT! Little bit of jealousy huh Joe?

Biggest Bass in A Few Years

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Joe and I went fishing today at an Ohio lake a friend of ours told us about, which I promised to keep secret. We got there about 8:30. I was using a green and White Scum frog, one of my favorite lures.

My first fish weighed in at a nice 7 pounds 4 ounces and I was very happy made my day. About 15 minutes later I hooked another big bass, I weighed it and it went 8 pounds two ounce. My third bass was over 6 pounds and the fourth bass just went 1/2 pound.

This lake was cover in grass and algae. I had to clean the trolling motor of weeds about 6 times. The lake is also very shallow and we had to use our little 8 foot boats to even fish it in Southeast Ohio.

This was the best day as far as big bass goes that I have had in a long time.

Somerset Reservoir

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Joe and I went bass fishing in Somerset Reservoir in Ohio Sunday. We caught about 6 small bass a piece and seen some big bass spawning.

I caught my bass on a Zoom Mini lizard Junebug color and one on a lizard camo color. The water was still a little stained from all the rain we had Friday night.

This is a very small lake with no ramp and if you were to take a small boat like a bass hunter, it is trolling motor only.

Two Tournaments I Can Recommend In Southeast Ohio

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

If you’re looking for a couple of tournaments to fish with nice people I can recommend Lake Logan Saturday mornings and Dow Lake, by Athens on Thursday nights.

These are a good bunch of people that don’t act like know it alls like some bass clubs do. These are just a bunch of people who get together and like to fish for bass.

If you’re new or a veteran fisherman, you will like these people. They are a good bunch of guys and will help you any way they can.

Try it, you might like it!

New Lexington Reservoir #2

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

Joe Arnold and I went to New Lexington Reservoir in Ohio Saturday May 15, 2010 and caught about 15 small bass. We seen a couple of nice ones on their beds but most of the ones we caught were less than 12 inches long.

Joe caught his on a white trick worm fished weightless and I caught mine on a Zoom mini Lizard, junebug color.

Joe looked like a lobster after fishing all day in the sun.

I have heard of big bass being caught in this reservoir but haven’t seen any big ones caught in two years.

New Lexington Reservoir

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

My 85 year old friend, Frank, and I went to New Lexington Reservoir in Ohio to panfish. We were fishing for crappie and bluegill and caught a few.

We used worms and minnows and I jig fished for crappies for awhile.

This is about the only time I don’t fish for bass is when I fish with him but it’s nice to sit and talk and we had a great time.

Oakthorpe slow lately

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Joe and I went to Oakthorpe Thursday and never caught a fish! We didn’t even have a good strike let alone a bass. It has been pretty slow lately, my friend Larry who usually slaughters them hasn’t done real well either there.

Joe went again today and never caught a fish again.

Hopefully things will pick up.

I do know the Division of Watercraft are watching this lake and looking for people who run their outboards since it is a trolling motor only lake. I hope they catch them!

Oakthorpe Reservoir in Ohio being Patrolled!

Saturday, April 10th, 2010

Every time I go to Oakthorpe Reservoir there are idiots who are running their outboard motors even though it is a trolling motor only lake. So, I politely tell them it is a trolling motor only lake and then they get upset and tell me it isn’t even though all they have to do is go to the ODNR website and see that it is….the very first sentence says trolling motor only lake.

The good news about all this is that I talked to a Division Of Watercraft Officer and he assured me Oakthorpe was going to be patrolled for people who run their outboards……..woohoo, that is good news! Thanks!

Oakthorpe is a very small lake only 46 acres and why people think they need to run their outboards there I will never know.
