One hot summer day in Florida my friend was working on his boat. While I am not a drinker, a beer sounded very good. Since he was drinking one, I said hey can I have one of those? He said sure. So, I took a small sip and remembered why I didn’t drink. I said I’m sorry but I can’t drink this, he said OK I will finish it. Then he asked me to hand him a wrench that was on the trailer. I was already in the boat so I just leaned over to get the wrench and fell out of the boat. He said I sure am glad you didn’t drink the whole beer if that is what a sip does to you. He laughed until he had tears in his eyes. Of course, the beer had nothing to do with me falling out of the boat. I heard about that for years.

I was thinking about all the lures that I used to use and caught bass with that I don’t even own anymore. They are not even in my tackle bag or anywhere else. The ones that I do own, I don’t use and was thinking to myself, why is that?

Let me give you one example, the Mister Twister Twintail, chartreuse color. I caught hundreds of bass with this lure years ago and haven’t used one or owned one in years now. Why is that?

How about Kelly’s Striper Worms? I had a friend who used them and caught so many bass with one that I started using them close to 25 years ago. He used the red and white color and I used the purple and white. Haven’t used one regularly in years. Why is that?

I could go on about this mentioning lure after lure that I don’t use anymore. I was in Florida using a Kelly’s striper worm and the guy I was fishing with says, “you might catch something up North on that but you won’t catch anything here in the South on it”. I caught two bass with it while he was telling me that.

Here is the thing….even though I knew it caught bass, I listened to him and started using something else when in Florida. Also, I have never heard of a Pro using a Kelly’s Striper Worm or a Mister Twister. So What? I had proof they worked and worked well catching bass!

Jim, my friend who used the red and white Kelly Striper caught an 8 pounder, 2 six pounders all in the same day with it. I have seen him catch bass like that constantly with it over the years. That is why I started using it.

Today, I am going to find a Mister Twister and Kelly’s Worm and other lures and start using them on a regular basis. I have proof they work, positive proof, I have used them and caught big bass and lots of bass on them. My best day ever was on a Kelly worm, 76 bass in 4 hours. I must be an idiot to not us them anymore.
